Subject: Descriptive Paragraph Assignment

This is my Rifle, there are numerous standardized it just now this one is mine... isnt just
something out of a Stanley Kubrick movie or some right-wing militant rantings.
It is also known as the Riflemans Creed written by major Rupertus on the
relationship between a Marine and his leach. I remember vividly that hot August
afternoon in 1987 when I was standing at the position of attention at the window
of the Armory getting my M16A2 service rifle issued to me and having to recite
the orison three different times to get it, totally the while, a Drill Instructor was
right in my ear big(a) me an earful about not moving fast enough. I remember
smell of the CLP gun oil that it was covered with when I got it, you n of all time forget
the pungent aroma that seeped out of the barrel and chamber. It gets all over your
clothes. The M16A2 has several distinct thinking(a)s. Not just the sound of a round
being fired successfully out of its barrel, but the slaps of Marines hands on the
stocks in unison during close indian lodge drill, the sound of its charging handle is unique
when chambering a round, and the rare, but disastrous sound of an inept recruit
dropping it on the parade deck.

ever again. My rifle looked just like everyone elses. It was black, and it had tell-
tale scratches on the buttstock and handguards from its previous use. 43 was
stenciled in green paint on the butt. Of frame I had to memorize the serial
number (3432815 yes I equable remember after almost 25 years) just like I had to
know the Creed and the specifications and how to take it apart, clean it, and localise
her back together again, and again, and again. The Drill Instructors made sure
that we knew that rifle like the back of our very own hands, it would save your life
