In the United States, there were many approaches to the civil rights movement. One event, in particular, was the landmark case, brownness v. the Board of grooming of Topeka, Kansas in 1954. Throughout this case there was the argument about the separate but equal schools as ruled by the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case. Attorney, Thurgood Marshall, was a member of the NAACP, which is an organization whose mark is to end racial discrimination and segregation. He believed that the best instruction to bring about change of segregation was through the sancti wizd system. Marshall pointed out that separate but equal was just an allegory covering up racism. Brown v. the Board of Education fought by stating educational institutes are fundamentally unequal.

The Supreme tourist court unanimously agreed that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional and declared that separated educational facilities are inherently unequal. This do the path for desegregation. Marshall later went on to become the head start African American Supreme Court Justice in American history.
