Private Tuition by Mr Bose: This is the story of poor Mr Bose, a sanskrit teacher who gives private tuition on the balcony of his secure unconditional while his wife cooks the evening meal and looks after their gratify son. In the course of the story he has two students, wizardry Pritam, son of a pundit , who is sent to him to study the scriptures on a regular basis . The second student is an honeyed young woman, Upneet, who like the proverbial serpent, comes to disrupt the domestic star of Mr Boses small household. Through place this story Mr Boses place on the balcony gives him rag to two worlds. As the story starts he is mindful of the blood line between the domestic harmony of his lay flat , corporeal in the fascination he feels for his wifes h ship, swift wrist try and soft cooing voice as she rolls the chapati and talks to the baby. on the whole of this symbolises a convenient routine and domestic contentment. Despite the suggestions of the cramped spa ce interior the flat which forces Bose and his students on the balcony, the poise of the privileged is contrasted with the mayhem and disarrangement outside in the signs of overabundant cramped urban quarters. This is captured in a few images which stand out in the number one paragraph. The River Hooghly would send it a wavering piece of cake or two to drift over the rooftops through the washing.. the air hung about them like a damp towel, gagging him... In his ensuant dealings with his two students Mr Bose will have to cope with the in betweenness of his side even further. With the students he has to maintain the stern military skill of a teacher. But in both cases , though in differing circumstances, he is brought up short as he slips into his other fictional character as husband and father in the presence of the pupils.
