Becoming a grade school teacher has always had an appeal to me. When I was in 2nd grade I would watch my teacher, Mrs. Davis, sitting at her desk grading papers and think to myself I would like to do that someday. Im not sure what it was about this action that attracted me. Perhaps it had more to do with the teacher herself, who had a lasting impression on me. Mrs. Davis had that quality that is vital in every childhood teacher; she had the ability to connect with her students and to run with them in a childlike way.
Instead of being a feared authoritative figure, she was more of a comforting mom, priseed because she commanded respect yet loved because she gave love. These wonderful qualities first stirred in me the desire to be a teacher when I was 8 years old. Even then, on some level, I was fit to understand the power a teacher has in a childs life. A student is in school for about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week about 35 hours a week, which is more time than many parents are able to spend with their children in a to the full week at home.
So school ingest must have a major impact in a childs life. One bad teacher can cause such pain during those long hours, qualification them not like school; therefore they would not like to be a teacher.
