According to Websters dictionary, bilingual education raft be defined as the informing in which those  non fluent in the standard or national delivery are taught in their own language (2011). In somewhat cases bilingual education exists to assist in the transition and socialization of immigrants into a new country and culture. In other situations, bilingual education exists to spread the diversity of culture and knowledge to school aged children. The purpose of this paper is to discuss some of the benefits and sociological implications of bilingual education for children in the United States.
Historically, the concept of bilingual education gained notability in 1923 with the case of Meyer vs. Nebraska. In this case, a teacher was accused of breaking Nebraskan law that made direction in another language illegal. After judicial review, the compulsory Court deemed the Nebraskan law unconstitutional because it denied an individual of one of their pictorial and inalienable rights (Nieto 2009).
